AT THE CLUB: THE MACCABEES IN CAMDENPosted: September 18, 2012
Florence Welch isn’t the type of woman one would normally find in Camden, and tonight she brings her Machine with her for a show at the Susquehanna Bank Center. The price for entry starts at $25 which leads me to another joke, but I think I’ll pass on that one for now.
If you can, don’t show up fashionably late, as Florence had the good sense to bring along an opener of the highest quality. Brighton, England-based The Maccabees (not the Jewish rebel army) are on to their third album, the sublime and understated Given To The Wild, which has brought them even more fame in their home country. While I prefer the crunchy guitars of their first two records, people seem to fawning all over their latest release, so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.
This tour makes its way to LA next month. The band will be doing a standalone show at the El Rey Theatre on Friday, October 5th and two support slots for Florence & the Machine on the 7th and 8th at the Hollywood Bowl.
Florence, but not The Maccabees, got a mention in today’s Inky.
Here’s a song from the band’s first album:
