ROOTS JAM: “DARLING NIKKI” WITH MAYA RUDOLPH

This is one of the more awesome things I’ve ever seen on late night television – Maya Rudolph and the Roots (with Gretchen Lieberum) covering the Purple One’s “Darling Nikki,” you know, the song that was on the album that my parents got me for a birthday present when I was a kid.

Indie rock/Weezer fans may also remember Rudolph’s stint with the Matt Sharp-led side project The Rentals in the ’90s.

This all went down on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon a couple nights ago, and it was a precursor to what happened last night in Brooklyn. If you were there I’d love to hear about it.

Here’s the video of the Fallon performance.
